The Adventures of Roderick Random. (American Bindings)

Scarce 1836 Harper Edition of Smollett’s Picaresque Classic

Scarce American reprint in handsome condition of Smollett’s 1748 novel, one of the first major English picaresque works and a foundational text of British comic fiction. Cruikshank’s illustrations, though originally engraved for earlier London editions, were a key attraction for American reprint houses responding to the visual tastes of 1830s readers.
