Palestine as the Hope of Jewish Refugees.

Wartime pamphlet linking Jewish refugee crisis to Palestine

Palestine as a Refuge in the Global Jewish Crisis

Issued by the United Palestine Appeal in New York, this pamphlet preserves three addresses delivered at the National Conference of the organization in Washington, D.C. during the early years of World War II. Each essay links the problem of Jewish displacement in Europe with the prospective solution of resettlement in Palestine. Rt. Hon. Alfred Duff Cooper, a former British Cabinet minister, speaks on “A Solution for the Palestine Problem.” Justice Frank Murphy, then an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, contributes “The Challenge of Intolerance,” a defense of democratic ideals against racial persecution. Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver, a leading American Zionist, provides “Palestine and the World Jewish Crisis,” framing the refugee question in urgent historical terms.
