Lucy, Perhaps. (Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference association copy)

First edition. Association copy, possibly a personal family copy. Warmly inscribed on the front endpaper: “To Talitha with much love, Margaret Hitchcock Carson, 1989.” Below, in a different hand: “Illustrations were done by Helen Hitchcock Bjornads, daughter of the author.” Hitchcock, who also authored Bread Loaf Talks on Teaching Composition, was connected with the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. Each chapter is adorned with handsome head- and tailpieces. Unsurprisingly, given Bread Loaf’s proximity, Hitchcock’s “stories are told against a New England background of hills, mountains, and seacoast…” (publisher’s blurb)

Description: Lucy, Perhaps. (Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference association copy)

New York: Henry Holt and Company, (1935). Original publisher’s cloth; dust jacket with sunned spine panel and with some chipping and edge wear. A very good copy overall.
