The Woolen Industry of South-West England. An Industrial, Technical and Economic Survey.

First American edition. “In the main part of this book, the author traces the history of the wool-textile industry in the West of England from its early flowering in Bristol in the twelfth century to the present day. He places special emphasis on the period of the Industrial Revolution, and on the often violent conflicts that arose between the workers and the manufacturers over the introduction of machines. He describes the various sections of the woollen broadcloth trade of Gloucester and the West Country woollen trade, including the important industry of south Somerset. The second part of the book consists of a gazetteer describing the main industrial non-urban areas of the woollen industry, and of descriptions of technical processes. It includes a bibliography. The book contains 55 monochrome illustrations.” (Publisher’s blurb)
