Rare 1947 Lansdale A.A. leaflet with meeting map and D.M. ladies note

A rare survivor from the early postwar spread of Alcoholics Anonymous, this 5 x 3 inch leaflet features a printed map, reproduced from a hand-drawn original, showing the greater Montgomery and Bucks County area and documenting the North Penn Group of A.A. in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.

Organized April 24, 1947, and meeting at the Lansdale Youth Center, the North Penn group’s leaflet marks key roads, towns, and electric rail lines to direct members to open and closed meetings. Its vernacular design reflects the grassroots nature of early A.A. activity, listing meeting times for Lansdale, North Wales, Hatboro, and Abington, and noting that “Lansdale has a separate room for the D.M. ladies who meet same evenings.”

The Twelve Steps are printed on the back followed by text of encouragement and a PO Box for the group is given for “Sincere Inquiries.” A rare ephemeral piece of local A.A. history, unrecorded in institutional holdings or library catalogs in the United States or abroad.
