Inscribed portrait of American accordion pioneer Pietro Deiro
An inscribed 1942 publicity photograph of Pietro Deiro (1888–1954), one of the foremost figures in early 20th-century American accordion music. Known as the “Daddy of the Accordion,” Deiro was instrumental in legitimizing the instrument as a concert tool rather than a novelty. In this studio portrait, he poses with his piano accordion,, promoting his “Accordion Headquarters” at 46 Greenwich Avenue, New York City. The handwritten inscription reads, “To Gladys Anderson, Sincerely, Pietro Deiro, 1942.”
