This issue presented a scholarly array of articles examining African American history and cultural contributions through literature, theater, music, and education.

Articles include Samuel A. Hay’s “African-American Drama, 1950–1970,” Lynn McCutcheon’s “Unsung Heroes Who Also Sang” highlighting overlooked African American vocalists, Martha K. Cobb’s “Martin Morua Delgado,” an in-depth look at Morúa Delgado’s influence, Norman Kagen’s “The Dark Horse Operas: A Film Article,” James H. Kennedy’s “Castro Alves, Brazil’s ‘Poet of the Slaves’” and Romeo Eldridge Phillips, writing on “White Racism in Black Church Music.”

Also seen is Marcus Christian’s “Poem—Spirit of Revolt” capturing themes of resistance in verse. The issue concluded with reviews, such as Who Took the Weight? Black Voices from Norfolk Prison by Jeanne A. Davis and Rappin’ and Readin’ by Thelma D. Perry.
