No License Wins The Day. [caption title]

Small broadside song sheet with lyrics for the Delaware temperance anthem “No License Wins The Day” by William H. Cannon. The song is sung to the tune of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”: “The bugle note is sounding now, / The Temp’rance War is on; / The Di’mond State is now aroused, / Her sons are marching on; No license is their battle cry…”

Pencil notes on the verso, possibly by a temperance activist, mention “the districts of Kent Co.” and “Drunken man came off boat—a sight, people looked at him.” Kent County became a “dry” county in November 1907. The Philadelphia Inquirer (November 6, 1907) reported that “No License Wins The Day” was sung in the streets of Dover.
