Delaware Horse Racing Program Advertising Sheet, ca. 1891.
—
Printer’s proof? A late 19th-century advertising sheet from a Delaware racetrack, likely retained for future race scheduling or program printing. Unlike known examples that include a printed race program, this sheet preserves only the verso’s advertisements, suggesting it was set aside by the printer for later use. Though undated, its content and printing style closely match a race program issued in 1891 that we have catalogued.
Advertisements seen here include: Stud services of “Benefaction” (bred by Leland Stanford in California) and “Woodall”, two horses advertised by George A. Millington (Dover); Elkton Stock Farm, promoting Stallions “Star Duroc” and “Prince George”; Dr. J.E. Register, Dentist (Dover); Joseph McDaniel, dealer in carriages and buggies (Dover); B. Frank Harris, “Shoer of Track and Road Horses” (Dover); The Delawarean First-Class Family Paper (Dover); Marcus’ Temple of Fashion (Dover), promoting millinery and ready-made fall & winter garments; and J. Frank Allee’s Reliable Jewelry Store (Dover).
