Ca. 1866–1895, Three advertising pieces for Mrs. Prettyman’s Celebrated Breast Salve.
—
Nineteenth-century group of three advertisements for Mrs. Prettyman’s Celebrated Breast Salve, likely a Delaware-based remedy. Only one testimonial—printed in the earliest circular from 1866—comes from a Delaware resident, suggesting the product originated locally. This circular touts the salve’s effectiveness for gathered breasts, carbuncles, boils, and rheumatism, and includes testimonials, usage directions, and pricing. A later circular broadens its claimed benefits to include colds, cancers, and pneumonia, while noting over 5,000 boxes sold. The third, titled “The Wonder of the Age,” stresses its longevity and curative claims for conditions such as King’s Evil and tumors.
