Collected anti-slavery lectures of British abolitionist George D. Thompson (1804–1878) and with an historical introduction to his career by American abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison (1805–1879). Garrison met Thompson in 1833 when he visited England on his own anti-slavery mission. Life long colleagues, each man named a child after the other.

Of Thompson, ODNB reports: “In the run up to the Emancipation Act of 1833 he became the most effective British anti-slavery lecturer since Thomas Clarkson, addressing public meetings in 1832 in Manchester, Liverpool, and elsewhere in reply to Peter Borthwick, the anti-abolition propagandist of the West India planting interest.”
