Ca. 1880s photograph of Bay Street, the Seawall and Fort Marion in St. Augustine, Florida.
—
An exquisite circa 1880s albumen photograph in stunning condition showing late Victorian-era homes along Avenida Menendez, then Bay Street, and before that a coastal marsh. The street runs parallel to St. Augustine’s seawall and the Matanzas River. Spanish-built Fort Marion (Castillo de San Marcos) and a large sailing ship are visible in the distance.
What may be the photographer’s autograph, now indistinct, appears midway between the two boats in the water.
