Wiersze Zebrane (Collected Poems) [Inscribed and Signed]
—
First edition of Wiersze Zebrane (1971), an early collected volume of poetry by Zbigniew Herbert, one of postwar Poland’s most influential writers. This copy bears a brief personal inscription from the author on the half-title: “For Tobie, Zbigniew.” By 1971 Herbert had already published several major collections, and his morally engaged, classically inflected verse was widely seen as a quiet form of resistance under Communist rule. He would later become an internationally celebrated poet and frequent Nobel candidate.
