Black History Month school program celebrating civil rights and with the event’s guests of honor being activists, Rosa L. Parks, Fred D. Gray, and Martin Luther King, III. In 1955, Rosa L. Parks (1913–2005) led the Montgomery bus boycott in Alabama and was defended in court by African American attorney, Fred Gray (b.1930), after her controversial arrest for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger. “During the Montgomery bus boycott, Gray’s leadership and legal counsel played a crucial role in the successful desegregation of Montgomery buses.”¹ Martin Luther King, III (b. 1957) later became leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) founded by his father, the civil rights martyr Martin Luther King, Jr.
