“The Leavenworth, Lawrence and Galveston Railroad Company (LL & G RR Co.), headquartered just southwest of Baldwin City in the small town of Prairie City, Kansas, was originally chartered in 1858 to build a railroad from Leavenworth to the south Kansas border. Construction began in late 1867 and on New Years day of 1868 track had been laid to Ottawa. Construction resumed in the spring of 1869 and reached Coffeyville, KS in 1871. Making a total distance of 143.83 miles for the railroad line.” (See ABOUT US Midland Railway, accessed online)

This stock certificate was autographed by a company agent and official and it was issued at Boston on June 11, 1871 to H. Ledyard. Vignette illustrations depict villagers hailing the arrival of a train and a locomotive stopped at a depot.

Engraved illustration vignettes and decorative borders. Overprinted in orange with 25¢ U.S. Internal Revenue tax stamp. Blind embossed corporate seal depicting a locomotive and cars. Folds and trimmed a little close along bottom; else near fine.
