Doctor Benjamin Franklin. Engraved by Wm Evans, from an original picture, (the last painted) in the possession of Dr. Jas. Hamilton.

Stipple engraving of Benjamin Franklin; this portrait showing him wearing his iconic spectacles. “The ‘original picture’ has not been discovered, nor its presumed owner identified. Whitfield J. Bell, Jr., has suggested as the most plausible identification the Irish James Hamilton for whom Joseph Priestley wrote a letter of introduction to Franklin on March 11, 1779, describing him as a friend of liberty and lover of science .... The engraving may be an adaptation of the Charles Willson Peale mezzotint of 1787.” Sellers, Franklin in Portraiture, p385.
