Scarce Fourth of July sermon by this American clergyman. To date, the substance of Waldo’s text apparently remains unexamined or ignored by scholarship, for better or worse.
A native of Windham, Connecticut, Waldo was one of the few veterans of the American Revolution who were photographed, famously appearing in the 1864 book The Last Men of the Revolution. In 1856, at the age of 94, he became the Chaplain of the House of Representatives of Congress.
