Collected verse by this American poet, inscribed: “Good wishes to Louise Peabody Sargent, Nicholas Vachel Lindsay, April 13, 1922.” In this copy, Sargent hand-wrote additional Lindsay poems throughout the book, taken from Lindsay’s General William Booth Enters into Heaven, and Other Poems (1913) and Tramping with a Poet in the Rockies (1922) by Stephen Graham.
Louise Peabody Sargent (1856–1949) was a minor poet from Boston. Raymond Duncan, the Bohemian older brother of Isadora Duncan, publisher her poems, Collected Poems, posthumously, in 1949. Sargent’s copy was then owned by John S. Mayfield (1904–1983), a prolific first editions collector. Introduction by Harriet Monroe who first published Lindsay’s poetry in Poetry magazine.
