Paul Cuffe, Black America and the African Return.

Biography of Paul Cuffe (1759–1817), Massachusetts freeman, Wealthy shipping entrepreneur, and Pan-Africanist. The book includes significant transcriptions from Cuffe’s journal and from his letters. Cuffe visited Africa “...where he formed the mercantile-oriented Friendly Society of Sierra Leone before embarking for home. Future institutions among African Americans, working with like-minded societies in Sierra Leone and England, he hoped, would promote a legitimate triangular trade among the three continents in order to discourage slave trading and encourage emigration.” (ANB)
