1901 Autograph Letter Signed and 1903 ANS by Benno Rauchenegger, German Writer and Playwright.

One-page autograph letter and a small, partly-printed note card, each signed by German journalist, writer, and playwright Benno Rauchenegger (1843–1910). After serving in the military, Rauchenegger became a writer and journalist in Munich contributing to such newspapers as Allgäuer Anzeigeeblatt, Augsburger Abendzeitung, Münchener Neuesten Nachrichten, and the humorous weekly, Fliegenden Blättern. He co-wrote a guide to Munich in 1888 and he wrote plays for the Schlierseer Bauerntheater as well as having one play produced in New York. After his death, his works Der Augustossene (Old Augustus?) and Jägerblut (Hunter’s Blood) were made into films.

Accompanying the letter is a partly printed note card in which Rauchenegger expresses his “...heartfelt thanks for the congratulations on my 60th birthday that have been kindly sent to me.” (approx. translation) To this printed note, Rauchennegger has appended a handwritten personal note.

Both the letter and the note close with the hopeful Latin motto “Per aspera ad Astra!”—through hardships to the stars.
