The author’s analysis was guided by the “well known book on ‘Socialism’ written by Victor Cathrein, S.J.,” i.e. Viktor Cathrein (1845–1931), the Swiss German moral and legal philosopher and Jesuit priest.

Chapter titles include “Marx’s Materialistic Conception of History,” “The Living Wage,” “A Dozen Reasons Why a Catholic cannot be a Socialist,” and “What is the object of the ‘Volksverein?’”
