First edition. Inscribed and signed twice by African-American poet and critic William Stanley Braithwaite (1878–1962), admired for his instinctive talent in identifying poetic genius. This compilation includes four poems by Langston Hughes. As noted in Blockson 101, “Braithwaite’s perceptive and extraordinary instinctive gift of discovering the poetic genius has no doubt earned him the title of ‘Afro-American Anthologist of the Twentieth Century.’”
