Classic study of African American slave revolts by Marxist historian Herbert Aptheker whose master’s thesis examined Nat Turner’s 1831 slave rebellion in Virginia. Following several introductory chapters, the book is a chronological study of slave revolts from a 1526 revolt in a Spanish colonial settlement in what is now South Carolina up to the American Civil War including Gabriel Prosser’s “Plot” of 1800 and Denmark Vesey’s failed revolt of 1822.
