Paul Green (1894–1981) was a playwright and champion of human rights. He won the 1927 Pulitzer Prize for Abraham’s Bosom. “He was among the few white southerners who could envision integration. From the 1920s onward, he put time, energy, and money into the job of securing basic human rights for blacks and Native Americans, particularly fair treatment in courts of law and access to jobs and education.” (ANB)
