Small photo is captioned, thus: “Here’s a shot of the surrender of the island of Truk. Adm. Murray is the the [written twice] big wheel. It was signed on the battleship Portland. Two of us covered the whole deal.” Aboard the Portland, on September 2, 1945, Vice Admiral Chuichi Hara, Commander, 4th Fleet, signed the document surrendering the base at Truk, Caroline Islands. This photograph is likely unpublished.
