First published in 1944, this new edition was issued as part of a uniform set of the collected works of American novelist Howard Fast. With a Foreword by W.E.B. Du Bois written for this new edition. Freedom Road was dramatized on television in 1979 starring Muhammad Ali in the lead, playing a formerly-enslaved man elected to the U.S. Senate during Reconstruction. “[A] sympathetic account of freed slaves during the period of Reconstruction that followed the Civil War.” (ANB)
