First edition, first printing. Woodruff’s journal of this travelogue and expedition to distribute food and clothing to the Greeks. Woodruff offers thorough descriptions and observations of his tour destinations, delving into their historical and cultural aspects, emphasizing landmarks, architecture, and local customs.

The frontispiece shows the United States Frigate Java, and a view of Mt. Etna. Preliminary text includes a 1-page preface regarding the nature of the expedition. Another page lists the members of the Greek Committee of the City of New York, including such notables as Charles Wilkes, Arthur Tappan, and Theodore Dwight.

Quite scarce to commerce with the last copy at auction being in 2022 (approx. $850) and previously the only other copy being offered by Goodspeed in 1909.
