The book is dedicated to Beatrice Byely (née Guldin) by the author who describes her has having escaped the captivity of “Pontiac’s Confederates and bore her tender babes through the wilderness from Bushy Run to Fort Ligonier in 1763 [etc.].” The author was a a native of Paulton, Westmoreland County, and authored Col. Henry Bouquet and his Campaigns (1883), among others.
