The No Name Circle of America ... Brooklyn, N.Y. [cover title]

“Like Israel’s flock of old…”

Early Brooklyn Hipster-iana, an amateurishly printed and hand-colored program for the mysterious “No Name Circle of America.” This enigmatic social club possibly emerged during the Spanish-American War and its era of patriotic fervor. The evening’s highlights included violin and piano solos, a reading from Mark Twain, recitations, and the essay “Yankee Genius” read aloud by Mr. J.F. Tuck. Members gathered at the Bedford-Stuyvesant residence of Edward Colegate, a stained glass craftsman whose mastery, by one account, rivaled that of Louis Comfort Tiffany. Colegate’s work adorned both churches and residences.
