Photograph of the Florida Hurricane of 1926-damaged Meyer-Kiser Bank Building in Miami.

Photograph of the damaged façade of the 17-story Meyer-Kiser Bank building in Miami taken in the aftermath of the Hurricane of 1926. Huge gaping breaches in the building’s side and considerable masonry loss are visible, as are ruined office interiors. A derrick can be seen towards the bottom, with debris and salvaged building panels on surrounding building rooftops. Designed by Chicago architect Martin L. Hampton and constructed in 1925, the building was once one Miami’s tallest. After the hurricane, the top ten floors were demolished, the truncated building retaining the original design for the cornice topped with urns.
