1932 photograph of at the Sulphur Spring Hotel in St. San Francisco del Monte in Manilla, Philippines.
A rather unusual, and likely unique, photograph taken at the Sulphur Spring Hotel in Manilla, Philippines. Within the image, the date July 3, 1932 is printed. The nature of this photograph is unclear; it may show American tourists hoisting their glasses to celebrate the Fourth of July. Sunlight streams through three large windows at the back of the room. Two Filipino girls stand on chairs or dears in front of the middle window, raising their arms with the rest of the audience. Filipino men stand beside them.
From a modern perspective, this is perhaps somewhat of a sordid view, but it does capture a moment in time taken at a Manilla hotel for tourists and the camera work of a female Manilla photographer.
