Pohakee Florida. The Beanland of the South on Lake Okeechobee 1930.

On a sunny day in 1930, an excellent photograph of downtown Pahokee city in Palm Beach County, Florida. The city is well-known for its proximity to Lake Okeechobee and for being a rural, agricultural community specializing in sugarcane.

This streetview image was taken in the beginning years of the Great Depression. The names of businesses and their abundance of advertisement signage can be discerned through careful examination of the buildings. Residents stroll the main thoroughfare or lounge up against buildings. The Lake is in the background.
