Chrononhotonthologos : The Most Tragical Tragedy that ever was Tragedized by any Company of Tragedians. (First American edition)
—
First American edition of an 18th-century play by British songwriter and poet Henry Carey (1687–1743). This copy stitched and untrimmed, in its as-issued state.
The play parodied popular operas and theatrical spectacles and was considered a political satire. The play endured, however—here being published over 70 years later in America. Carey’s use of clever word-play and nonsense verse in Chrononhotonthologos influenced the nonsense poet Edward Lear.(ODNB)
