1884 Grover Cleveland U.S. Presidential Democratic Campaign Silk Ribbon.

“Union Forever”

Campaign ribbon for Democratic candidate Grover Cleveland’s successful 1884 run for president of the United States. Then governor of New York, Cleveland’s campaign was almost derailed by scandalous accusations that he fathered a child out of wedlock.

The “jugate” style ribbon shows a yoked or joint portrait of Cleveland and his vice presidential running mate, Thomas A. Hendricks of Indiana. Patriotic themes include a bald eagle clutching arrows, olive branches, and the shield of the United States.
