Two partly printed checks, completed in manuscript, drawn on the account of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Each is signed by two officers of PAFA: art collector and patron James L. Claghorn, President, and artist and pioneering American mezzotint engraver John Sartain, Treasurer. Sartain, an academician of PAFA from 1855 to 1877, and Claghorn were instrumental in professionalizing the instruction at the academy.
