Journal with 14 handwritten pages. Short entries on each page record mortgage bonds, capital stock, and interest payments of the Canal Railroad Company of Elmira, New York, a lessee of the Utica, Ithaca and Elmira Railroad (U.I.&E.).

The journal shows an issuance of 6,000 shares of capital stock (@ $10./share) and $100,000. for mortgage bonds on property and equipment, interest payments being debited and credited (reinvested), and regular rents charged to the U.I.&E, plus some legal expenses. Several entries show funds spent for grading and masonry, land damages and fences, engineering costs and bridges.
