Beniamino Frankin. [sic] [Benjamin Franklin Portrait Engraving]

Alternate state of this stipple engraving portrait of Benjamin; unusual as it is one of the few to show him full length. Here, Franklin is seated in a chair with his famous coon skin cap, his spectacles and his Franklin stove in the corner of the room. On his desk and floor are books, quills for writing and rolled papers. This engraving is entitled “Beniamino Frankin” – the Mitchell Sale selling the same image but it is titled differently: “Beniamino Francklin.” The portrait appeared entitled “Beniamino Frankin” in vol. 1 of Serie di Vite e Ritratti de’ Famosi Personaggi degli ultimi tempi…, a Milan imprint and 3-volume work of famous personages of the day, published between 1815–1818.
