“Engraved by Annin & Smith,” a rare penmanship workbook to accompany Boston Writing Copies Drawn by B. Whitney (19ff.) that was published under the direction R. Webb, J. Snelling, F. Emerson, G.F. Thayer, J. Robinson, B. Holt, P. Mackintosh, Jr., E. Webb, O. Pierce and P. Conant, Writing Masters. According to Nash 216–218, the primary text went through three editions between 1830 to 1833.
The workbook’s rear wrap Directions state that each column were to be cut into strips which the pupil then used as an exemplar to copy in their writing book. Three leaves here are partially cut; one column is lacking and one column is loosely inserted; else very good.
