Mammy’s Hum-Tune. A Black Key Melody for Piano.
—
A “plantation song” or imitative Black American spiritual (“Roll on, ole Jordan…”) here used as a lullaby. The music was written by Hermene Warlick Eichhorn (1906–2001), a white woman composer and a Hickory, North Carolina native. The front cover illustration shows a stereotypical “Mammy” singing and rocking the cradle of a white baby who is sleeping.
