Select Aphorisms, or Moral and Religious Sayings of Dr. Whichcot [sic].

Rare 1824 Philadelphia edition of maxims gathered by an anonymous compiler and attributed to Benjamin Whichcote (1609–1683), seventeenth-century theologian and moral philosopher. Whichcote (here “Whichcot”) was identified with “tolerant, optimistic, and rational theology, with its emphasis on practical ethics, [he] shaped the theology of the Cambridge Platonists.” (ODNB)

In addition to aphorisms, three narratives are printed, such as “The History of Samuel Bonner; or, Cruelty to Animals.”

Unrecorded in Imprints. OCLC: AAS only for this 76-page Philadelphia edition. A similarly-titled work was published in Boston, in 1820, with 48-pages.
