Minutes of the Illinois Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church held at Belleville, September 13, 1848.
Proceedings of the annual meeting of the Illinois Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The conference was held at Belleville, Illinois, close to St. Louis, Missouri where the pamphlet was printed. A note at the front of the Minutes calls attention to the Conference Bible Society, efforts to lift McKendree College out of debt, and points out that “[t]he resuscitation of the Missouri Conference, our large numerical increase, and the general prosperity of our Church interests, are marked and highly interesting events.”
This copy with the presentation inscription of Illinois Conference meeting participant, Education Committee chairman Erastus Wentworth (1813–1886), then president of Methodist-affiliated McKendree College. Wentworth subsequently became a missionary in Foochow, China and was editor of the Methodist monthly The Ladies’ Repository.
