Speech of Benjamin H. Brewster, Delivered at the Musical Fund Hall, Philadelphia. Wednesday Evening, March 11, 1863 [presentation copy].

Patriotic speech given by Philadelphia attorney Benjamin H. Brewster (Benjamin Harris Brewster) at the inauguration of the National Union Club, a patriotic association organized to support the Union during the American Civil War.  Bewster declared: “I am a Yankee of Yankees, and I glory in it; and the man who reviles them, reviles the best blood and the best men that have made illustrious the history of his country and the cause of popular liberty. [Deafening cheers.]”

Brewster would later serve as attorney general of Pennsylvania and, from 1881 to 1885, as U.S. Attorney General under President Arthur. This copy with a presentation inscription “...with the respects of Mr. Brewster.” We have one other Brewster item in our inventory; please enquire.
