Conversations on the Discipline of the Methodist Episcopal Church ... Published Quarterly, Conversation First — May 1844.

Unrecorded and rare Iowa Territory imprint presenting an imagined conversation between two Methodists discussing the Protestant denomination’s Articles of Religion and principles of church governance. The pamphlet is presented as a quarterly publication, this being the first “Conversation.” We locate no further publications in the series. The author is likely John N. Coleman who served on the board of trustees of and as a professor at the Methodist-sponsored Snethen Seminary in Iowa City.¹

William Crum published The Iowa Standard beginning in 1841 and moved to Iowa City, the territorial capitol, in that year, when the capitol was moved to its first permanent location. The present title seems to be the first known non-newspaper publication from his press.
