Section headings include “Lynching,” “Education,” “Migration,” “A New Reconstruction,” and “Interracial Cooperation.” With a Preface and an “Introductory Address” by White advocate for Black education, John H. Dillard (1856–1940) plus an additional letter, “Southern Educators Appeal for Enforcement of Law.” Published as Occasional Paper No. 24 by The John F. Slater Fund, a financial endowment established in 1882 for the education of Black Americans in the South.
