Young Oscar, Will stand for Mares this Season [opening lines of broadside].


Lancaster County, Pennsylvania stud broadside offering the breeding services of “Young Oscar…a beautiful Bay, rising Six years old this spring, about sixteen hands high, of fine bone and sinew, calculated for either saddle or harness.”

Young Oscar’s pedigree is provided and cover rates (for a “single leap” or season) are listed, with an option to insure the siring of a foal. The horse’s owner and subscriber of the broadside was Benjamin Brackbill, a farmer in Lampeter Township. A large wood engraved illustration of a trotting horse is signed in the block “H.B.”
