Civil War-era Constitution for this Franco-American society promoting philanthropy and including a brief account of its history. Pages 14 to 27 prints the Constitution in both English and French.
The French Philanthropic Society of Philadelphia is still extant, its website noting: “It is the first French association in the United States. In 1793, the French Philanthropic Society of Philadelphia came to the aid of the French who came to seek refuge in the American capital in the aftermath of the French Revolution and the slave revolt of Santo Domingo [the French colony will be renamed Haiti after its independence in 1804.”
Only one copy located, at the Library Company of Philadelphia; their copy lacks its rear wrapper. OCLC 1048984676 reports one copy at Penn; that copy is a photocopy, see Franklin.
