Skinner’s Original Family Doctor; showing the Causes, Symptoms and Cure of All Diseases; with an Appendix and Supplement, containing more than 150 Valuable Recipes, or Secrets Made Known.

Rare popular medical handbook of diseases and ailments, symptoms, and remedies etc. by physician and cookbook author, Dr. Henry Burchstead Skinner, M.D. Includes an appendix on the medicinal properties of common herbs and additional recipes for other medical, household, and cooking purposes, including “Sick Cookery.” A supplement treats “Diseases of Infants and Children” and offers “Remedies for Poisons” and hints for collecting medicinal herbs, barks, and roots. Food recipes offer cakes and puddings, pies, “dysepsia bread” and more.

The statement that this pamphlet is the “130th Edition” is spurious, albeit “This work has now passed to the one hundred and thirtieth edition, a circulation greater than was ever attained by any publication of the kind in the world…”

OCLC shows four holdings of Skinner’s Original Family Doctor under various accession numbers—U. Iowa, AAS, N.H. Hist. Soc., and U. Rochester Med. Ctr.—the latter bearing an 1847 imprint and an 1849 cover imprint, the reverse of the present copy.
