In addition to the title poem, the book includes such works as “O Black and Unknown Bards,” “Ma Lady’s Lips am like de Honey,” and the iconic “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” “In early 1900 [Johnson] and his brother Rosamond, an accomplished musician, collaborated on ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’ an anthem commemorating Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
