The Messenger Bird. [Friendship Album, published c. 1850s with 1859–1882 entries].
Friendship album kept by Sallie J. Elliott during the years 1859 to 1882, likely before and after her marriage. Entries, which can be light at times and where they are datelined, are mainly from Pennsylvania and Maryland, with a few from Ohio or New York. There are several entries from Colora, Maryland, 1878–1882—likely after Elliott’s marriage, possibly suggesting a connection with West Nottingham Academy there.
The album is distinguished by is complex binding of gilt and blind stamping with added gilt stamped colored paper onlays in blue green, yellow, and white.
