Young Senators [Promo Photo for Washington D.C. Funk and R&B Band].
Represented by a Baltimore agent, an early promotional color photo for this Washington. D.C. band founded in 1965. Known as “The Emperors of Go-Go” the band scored a number one hit single, “Jungle”, from an album produced on their own record label. This record was Washington, D.C.‘s 1st Go-Go record.
The band later became the touring band for Temptations co-founder Eddie Kendricks which this photo would appear to pre-date. In 1996, June 11 became established by the mayor of D.C. as The Young Senators Day. As of 2017, the band had reunited and were touring locally in D.C. and Maryland.
An interesting photograph of this African-American band that would play their role in the history of the American funk and R&B scene.
